What Is This Recruitment

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has released a notification cum prospectus for the Class XI Lateral Entry Selection Test 2027. This test is for admission to vacant seats in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) for the academic session 2027-28.

You can apply for this test if you are studying in Class X during 2026-27 and meet the age and residence rules given below.

There are 665 functional JNVs, spread across 27 States and 8 Union Territories.

How to Apply

Follow these steps to submit your online application before the last date.

  1. Go to the NVS website www.navodaya.gov.in
  2. Read the notification cum prospectus and check that you fulfil the eligibility criteria
  3. Keep the required documents ready in soft copy (JPG format, size 10 to 100 kb): photograph, signature of parent, signature of candidate
  4. Fill basic details of the candidate, such as State of residence and study, District of residence and study, and Aadhaar number, in the online portal
  5. Choose a maximum of two streams; for each stream choose a maximum of three JNVs
  6. Fill up the online application form and upload the photograph along with signatures of both the candidate and the parent
  7. Submit the online application on or before the last date, 30 September 2026
  8. Use the correction window, open for a few days after the last date, to correct any details if needed
  9. Download the admit card from the application portal before the selection test

  • Divyang (disability) medical certificate signed by Chief Medical Officer, if applicable
  • Category/community certificate for SC/ST/OBC, as per central list, if applicable
  • Valid ID issued by a Government authority, to be brought to the exam centre
  • Transfer Certificate from your parent school, to be submitted only after verification and confirmation of admission

Important Instructions

  • The last date to submit the online application is Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
  • The correction window opens for a few days after this date; no correction is allowed after that.
  • Registration and application are completely free of cost.
  • Information you submit in the online form is treated as final, so fill it with care.
  • Photograph and signatures must be in JPG format, with size between 10 to 100 kb.
  • You must download the admit card from the portal before the test; no candidate can appear without it.
  • No change of exam centre is allowed.
  • Use only a Blue or Black Ball Point Pen on the OMR sheet. Do not use pencil, whitener, or erase anything.

Eligibility

You must be studying in Class X during the 2026-27 session, in a Govt. or Govt. recognized school. This school must be affiliated to CBSE or another State/Govt. recognized Board, and located in the district where the JNV is situated.

Date of Birth Rule

Your date of birth must be between 1st June 2010 and 31st July 2012, both days included. This rule applies to every category, including SC and ST candidates.

  • Only Indian Nationals studying Class X in India can apply.
  • You must be studying Class X in the same district where the JNV is located.
